Safety Guidelines
To ensure safety for your child, we have conducted certain tests on the Sleepy Wrap to ensure that your baby carrier will provide safe and appropriate support for you and your baby. We meet or exceed all USA CPSIA requirements.
As the Sleepy Wrap product is essentially a long piece of fabric void of buckles, snaps, buttons, or any other attachments that could break or come undone, Sleepy Wrap’s biggest safety concern is presented when the product is not tied tight enough or is misused. The product is not a safety device on its own; it is designed to assist parents in carrying their babies. Parents are ultimately responsible for the safety of their child while he or she is in the carrier.
The carrier is a wrap baby carrier which does have a stretch factor to it. Before placing your baby into the wrap you should have the Basic Tie tied securely against your body. Please remember that the fabric is actually intended to stretch over your baby for extra support.
The Sleepy Wrap has been stress tested at 45 lbs. Use of this carrier is intended for your baby's first year of life. We only recommend the holds listed on our Tying Methods page. The Sleepy Wrap is not intended to carry your baby facing out with legs unsupported.
Points to Remember:
-
The 'x' that is formed when the two shoulder pieces are crossed in front of your body should cling tightly against your chest. If the fabric is hanging and not clinging, it is not tied tight enough. This is where your baby will sit.
-
The suggested age of your baby for the different holds in the instruction booklet or on our website is only a guide. Please take into consideration your child's own physical growth and developmental stage.
-
Our baby carrier is only intended to assist you in carrying your baby and should not be used for any other purpose.
-
Our baby carrier does not contain a safety belt or harness. The baby carrier is also not a safety device on its own, it is designed to assist you in carrying your baby. You are responsible for the safety of your child while he or she is in the carrier.
-
Always inspect the carrier carefully before each use. Make sure that the fabric is in good shape and does not have any holes. With proper care, our baby wraps should last as long as a good pair of jeans. Although the edges of the wrap are in fact serged, it is done so only for aesthetic reasons. If for any reason there are strings hanging or any part of the serging is coming undone we will replace the wrap at no extra cost.
-
Put your arm around your baby when you feel it is necessary for added security. Always support your baby while adjusting the fit. Don't let go of your baby until the baby carrier is properly wrapped and adjusted.
-
In all of the positions, the Classic Love your Baby Hold, the Hammock Hold, and the Newborn Holds, make sure that your baby is securely inside and that your baby’s body (your baby's back, bottom, and to the back of the knees) is supported by the “x” formed by the two shoulder pieces of fabric. When your baby falls asleep his head should be tucked under the fabric for head and neck support.
-
While nursing please ensure that there is adequate space between yourself and your baby’s airways.
-
If your baby is moving around a lot in the wrap or stretching his legs out straight like a board please support him and take him out of the wrap.
-
The baby carrier is not meant to replace your car seat. Never drive or carry your baby in the baby carrier while in a moving vehicle. Please do not use it while cycling, skating, swimming, skiing or while partaking in any other sports activity.
-
Support your baby with your arms when leaning or bending over. Always bend at your knees.
-
If you are wearing your child while cooking, shopping, sweeping the floor or for any other everyday activities, please pay attention to things that your child could reach out and touch. Be aware of objects that are hot or sharp or any other things around you that could fall or pose a threat to your baby.
-
Be cautious when eating hot food or consuming hot beverages when your baby is in the wrap.
- We do not recommend the forward facing (facing out) position for your baby. Please see our FAQ for more details. To read more about the most supportive way to bring your infant along with you through your day click here.
After reading all of these guidelines, we kindly remind you, once again, to use common sense and your best judgment when it comes to keeping your baby safe and secure. Sleepy Wrap Inc. will not be responsible for accidents arising from not tying the carrier tight enough or from other improper use of the Sleepy Wrap.
